Bison Antiquus Scan

Fossil Skull of the extinct ancient bison Bison Antiquus, discovered in a peat bog in Anoka County, Minnesota by Patrick Cherney in the 1980s. Age of fossil approximately 15,000 years old. Private collection.

Photogrammetry Scan with a Rebel t5i with a 50 mm lens with a ring light. 470 photos

Scanned in Reality Capture, retopoed in houdini, texture reprojected in RC then cleaned up in Substance Painter
This is the high detailed one, there is a 15k poly version that is for inclusion in a VR collaborative experience.

Then for fun, I brought the raw scan with 14.7 million polygons into Unreal to experiment rendering with Nanite. 1000 skulls x 14.7m polys per skull = 14,700,000,000 polygons and I'm still getting an average of 60-70fps.
Fantastic quality plus reduced optimization time on top of reasonable render time is pretty dang awesome. Nanite is UNREAL
